During the 2022 Hazardous Weather Testbed (HWT) Spring Forecasting Experiment (SFE), CAPS is running a total of 21 SAR-FV3 forecasts in several ensembles for select days in May and June of 2022. These runs are initialized at 00 UTC (7:00 PM CDT) each day and are run using the FV3-LAM model on a CONUS domain. These forecasts are being performed to assist the National Weather Service in determining an optimal configuration for the next-generation FV3 ensemble, the Rapid Refresh Forecasting System (RRFS). Forecast ensembles being run by CAPS include a set of members designed to evaluate different physics configurations, an IC/LBC ensemble, and an ensemble using stochastic perturbations. Products from this year's ensemble can be found here: 2022 HWT SFE / HMT FFaIR Products |
